Rolling Release: the Arch Linux ezine

Rolling Release is the definitive forum for the dissemination of news by the Arch Linux community, for the Arch Linux community. We can trace our roots to the original Arch Linux Weekly Newsletter, published for the very first time on February 8th, 2004 by Ben Mazer and Jason Chu. Throughout the years, the newsletter went through various hands and nearly as many redesigns, eventually becoming the Arch Linux Magazine before transitioning to its current form as the Rolling Release online magazine.

In July 2010, ALM Executive Editor Daniel Griffiths found that the magazine in its current format was more than one person could handle. The process of getting contributors to submit their work by set deadlines was near impossible and one person simply couldn’t keep up with the amount of content necessary to make releasing the magazine worthwhile. He made a post on the Arch forums asking the community for their thoughts on the future of ALM, and posed similar questions to users in the Arch Linux IRC channel. The results were overwhelming. A vast majority of users expressed interest in migrating the tried-and-true format to a more fluid web-based model. Hence, Rolling Release was born.
